“Mark and his team built wardrobes and a bed head for me recently in my main bedroom and they did an amazing job.

Mark completely understood the scandi style we were going for and interpreted it in a really beautiful way. He was really easy to communicate with - responsive and took all my suggestions on board but also made really great challenges and many ideas of his own. The quality of finish is just beautiful - I’ve seen other similar hit+miss style being used but close up it doesn’t look as good as what Mark has created. He also added little thoughtful extras that we hadn’t considered - such as much nicer quality hanging rails and little valet hooks for our outfits of the day. We are so pleased with the wardrobes and even though the rest of the house needs work, the bedroom feels like a nice sanctuary now.

“We searched high and low for a kitchen that really matched the type of design we wanted. We had done the rounds of the high street kitchen shops, Ikea & online retailers sending round the hard salesmen and couldn’t find anything that fitted the image of our kitchen in our heads and had real ‘life’ to it. “When deciding the design for our new kitchen extension and kitchen fittings I wanted an island unit that was bespoke and unique to us. Having been round and seen Marks designs and furniture at his Open House last year I thought Square One Design would be perfect for the job.

I had some designs in mind of what I wanted and went through these with Mark on his first visit to us. Above all I wanted something unique, that no one else would have, coupled with something that would reflect my personality! After a few design consultations and sorting out the measurements we worked together to come up with something that was completely different. It was really refreshing to work with someone who had both vision and appreciated my sense of style and was prepared to work on something that was a little out of the ordinary. At no stage did Mark insist on me going for something run of the mill which was great as so many builders and tradesmen I’ve worked with in the past like to keep it as simple as possible.

Upon deciding on the type of wood and finish to the island unit Mark suggested getting a local and well known artist Ben Allen to design a screen print on the doors. This was perfect, and reflected the type of artwork and finish to the rest of my house, it would fit in perfectly. Mark also help me source the stainless steel worktop I wanted for the top, infact he took over the entire thing and not only sorted it, but liased constantly with the worktop company and fitted in all the appliances I needed to complete it.

And Wow, what an island unit.

Not only has Mark worked to all my deadlines, or rather lack of them as the building project kept moving and I kept having to delay him - something which was frustrating for both me and Mark - the island unit surpassed everything I imagined it would be. His attention to detail and ability to listen, incorporate and initiate exactly what I wanted has been really refreshing. Not only that, but the design although unique to us, is so wonderful any potential buyer of our property wouldn’t fail to be won over by it!! I have some very envious friends and neighbours and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mark and use him again in the future.”
