The £2000 makeover was offered as a prize to all 400+ beach huts in Brighton and Hove and the lucky winner was Kay Stephan. Her beach hut is much loved and used by Kay and her family throughout the summer, but was definitely in need of some refurbishment, both inside and out.
We designed the interior to compliment the family’s lifestyle, so we started with a bench seat with lots of storage underneath and a fold down table, so that there was somewhere to have a cup of tea even on a rainy day. The bench was clad in workshop finds, solid walnut, balau decking and some of the old exterior ship lap boards were recycled. A matching stool can store away when not needed under a kitchen cupboard, which is topped with a solid oak curved work top. A canvas sling in the roof enables the surfboards to be stored in the apex. Beachy striped fabric was used for seat cushions and sail windbreaks, which are anchored down by cement casted sandcastles and spades, which can be moved around to give privacy and shade as needed.
“We all just LOVE the new hut, it is really practical, looks really cool without being too flash and is full of clever ideas. It has been a pleasure working with you all on this – you listened carefully to what we needed from a hut, had loads of ideas, kept us in the loop, the quality of the work is fabulous and the result is stunning.” Kay Stephane
We absolutely loved doing this makeover. It was great working with Jo at Tempting Interiors. We were very lucky with the weather and all the friendly people we met as we toiled away. I think we will be popping by for a cup of tea or two!
